On creating spaces that feel safe enough (and how we got here)
We received an email yesterday that stopped me in my tracks.
Someone who had attended one of our workshops wrote to say thank you, not just for the content, but for the way the space felt. She said she had felt safe. And then she asked a question that I think matters: “What led you to be so intentional about creating a diverse and inclusive space, given that both founders are not people of colour?”

The City Of London: Slave Trade Money Trail Tour, with Darrel Blake
Yesterday, a group of Homa tutors spent the afternoon on a walking tour with researcher, historian, activist, public speaker and CEO of Black Rooted Darrel Blake, tracing the "slave trade money trail” through the City. It was fascinating, absorbing and deeply uncomfortable.

The Homa Training Story
Training at Homa is not simply about learning therapeutic skills or absorbing theory. It is a developmental journey that begins with the self and gradually unfolds into the practice of psychotherapy. At Homa, becoming a therapist also means Walking the Walk, bringing the values of Humanistic psychotherapy into our relationships, communities and the wider world.

Rethinking Accreditation: Nick Totton's Independent Practitioners Network
Ths Independent Practitioners Network (IPN) is an experiment in creating a more cooperative and relational way of organising therapists. Rather than a central authority assessing and regulating practitioners, the IPN is built around small peer groups of therapists who know each other’s work well. These groups support, challenge and take responsibility for one another’s practice, and then connect with other groups in a wider network of mutual accountability.

AI can help. It’s still not therapy.
I work in a field adjacent to AI, and I am training in humanistic psychotherapy. From this vantage point, much of the current discussion about AI in therapy seems slightly off-target.

Why we use the term 'Global Majority'
We acknowledge that identity is deeply personal, and everyone has the right to define themselves in the way that feels authentic. Global Majority is not a label that works for everyone, and we respect individual preferences.

For Women?
Some reflections on the recent Supreme Court judgment.
Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court handed down judgment in the case of For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers. Whilst not pretending to provide a comprehensive analysis, we thought it might be helpful to explain some elements of the judgment for HOMA trainees, and to offer some ideas as to what it might mean for the work that we do together.
